MY GIRLS

collegehumor:

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler Heckle Neil Patrick Harris at Emmy Awards 2013

The cool kids from the back of the class got themselves front row seats at the Emmy’s. No big.

Romantic wedding song or tender love making anthem? The beauty of options y’all.

I Want To Love Them But…

I saw Icona Pop last weekend, and I’m not sure if I actually like them. Their music is girl powered, kick ass and very reminiscent of my inner Hit-Girl, but their commentary kinda ruined it for me.

The duo, consisting of swanky Swedes Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, promoted binge drinking and promiscuity during their set. Okay, promoting is a stretch, but let’s be real. If Icona Pop says they do that stuff often, the young and impressionable tweens will follow close behind. Don’t get me wrong, I am a strong supporter of cuttin’ loose and feelin’ free, but shouldn’t they be pushing education, dreams and friendship? What happened to the gentle teachings of Judy Blume?

Don’t fret, I am fully aware I sound like a mom and possibly a grandma, but I can’t help but feel torn. No girl should feel pressured to do anything. Drinking, making out with strangers at music festivals…nothing.

To clarify, I’m not just picking on Icona Pop. I’m talking about all pop stars/influencers out there. With so much control and power, how can you not be working to improve the younger generations?

We need more leaders, doers, teachers and dreamers, y’all.

P.S. This doesn’t mean I will stop listening to Icona Pop or that anyone should. Their music is festive and fun. Just work on the vibe, girls.

I am 99 percent positive that I am not alone in hoplessly obsessing over Lena Dunham. Maybe its her crazy confidence or hilariously weird sense of humor, but that gurl can’t be tamed. Some guys don’t seem to get why us ‘girls’ carry her in our lil hearts with such high honor, but let’s be honest…GIRLS RULE BOYS DROOL.

I simply regard romantic comedies as a subgenre of sci-fi, in which the world created therein has different rules than my regular human world. Then I just lap it up.

Dance Anthem of the 80s

Hi there! There are a few things you should know about me before I dive right in.

I’m a 21-year-old diet coke addict, who loves to laugh and dance. I’m also new to this.

A weird thing happens to me when I listen to music. I’m instantly transported into this daydream nation where my thoughts completely consume me. Dramatic I know, but seriously this happens.

Today I was listening to Regina Spektor’s “Dance Anthem of the 80s,” and I found myself in a small town sitting across from a very attractive boy, who appeared to be a milkman or something (don’t ask…I’m still confused by this). We start dancing underneath strings of small white lanterns that illuminate our milky skin (I might have had too much milk today…it seems to be a theme here). All the sudden, I’m on stage singing to him. He stares at me as if we go way back. It’s all pretty dreamy and if you listen to this song, you will probably be extremely confused.

Basically my point here is that I want to share songs with you. Okay so maybe they will be accompanied by some weird daydream, but hey I’m keepin’ things interesting right?
